AMD’s Potential Launch of RX 7600 XT: A Sneak Peek into the Future of Graphics Cards

RX 7600 XT

AMD, known for its innovative and powerful graphics cards, has recently hinted at a potential addition to its RX 7000 range. A filing with the European Economic Commission (EEC) suggests the release of an RX 7600 XT in the near future, available in both 12GB and 10GB variants. While AMD’s Scott Herkelman claims that the RDNA 3 lineup is “complete,” this filing raises questions about the company’s plans and keeps enthusiasts on the edge of their seats.

It all comes down to the GPU dies. Both AMD and Nvidia often repurpose their GPU dies for multiple graphics cards. For instance, the new RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT models utilize the Navi 32 chip, but with different compute units. AMD’s earlier statement about the lineup being complete specifically referred to GPU dies. However, this does not rule out the possibility of different variants of graphics cards featuring the same die.

RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT

The RX 7600 seems to be a prime candidate for such a variant. Introducing a supercharged version in the form of the RX 7600 XT would make perfect sense, especially considering the notable gap in AMD’s current lineup. With the RX 7600 priced at $270 and the next step up, the RX 7700 XT, priced at $450, there is certainly a need for an intermediate option.

However, there is a slight issue with the RX 7600 already using the full Navi 33 chip. If an RX 7600 XT were to materialize, it would likely be based on the Navi 32 chip. Interestingly, we have not yet seen a graphics card using the base version of this die. Our encounter has thus far solely been with the XL variant in the RX 7700 XT and the XT variant in the RX 7800 XT. This speculation aligns with the information in the EEC filing, which suggests that the card may come equipped with 12GB of memory.

That being said, AMD may not be feeling an overwhelming sense of urgency to release new GPUs at the moment. The company already boasts some of the best graphics cards on the market, with the recent RX 7800 XT even outperforming Nvidia’s RTX 4070 in a head-to-head battle. AMD’s current lineup is doing so well that the release of an RX 7600 XT might actually overshadow its existing offerings.

With the RX 7800 XT, AMD faced backlash as the card’s performance was only marginally better than the previous generation’s RX 6800 XT. Releasing another card that offers similar performance to its last-gen counterparts could further fuel disappointment among consumers. Additionally, AMD would have to contend with excess inventory from the previous generation, making it a less-than-ideal situation to compete with themselves.

An RX 7600 XT would likely find itself in a similar position. The RX 6700 XT from the previous generation has become the go-to graphics card at around $350, and a potential RX 7600 XT would likely fall in a similar price range. Given AMD’s track record in this generation, it is not far-fetched to assume that the performance of an RX 7600 XT would be comparable.

Yet, for now, all we can do is speculate. While the EEC filing indicates the potential launch of new graphics cards from AMD, we have seen similar filings in the past that never materialized into actual products. If AMD were to release new graphics cards, it would likely be several months away, considering the recent launches of the RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT.

In conclusion, the future of graphics cards holds promise and excitement, with AMD potentially expanding its RX 7000 range to include an RX 7600 XT. Although the company’s current lineup is already impressive, there is always room for improvement and innovation within the world of GPUs. As technology enthusiasts eagerly await official announcements from AMD, it remains to be seen how these potential new additions will shape the landscape of the graphics card market.
