Oops! Apple’s Vision Pro headset takes an unexpected detour from its target launch date!

Apple's Vision Pro headset faces a delayed launch, missing its original target date

Despite its best efforts to launch its highly-touted VR headset in January of next year, it appears Apple is going to miss its target date for the launch of the Apple Vision Pro.

Writing in his latest “Power On” newsletter, Apple insider Mark Gurman revealed the tech giant now plans to launch its $3,500 mixed reality headset (which ENBLE’s Editor in Chief Jason Hiner said was “far above” expectations) around March of 2024.

Apple hasn’t officially commented yet, but it seems like there are a couple of reasons for the delay. One is that Apple simply wants to get in a little more design testing before consumers get their hands on the product. The second reason could be that Apple is still figuring out how to distribute the Vision Pro effectively.

According to Gurman, the rollout of the headset will be carefully managed. Apple employees will be summoned to Apple Park in California to receive training on the device, which they will then pass on to others. Apple stores will have a dedicated area for customers to try out the device, but sales will only be by appointment. Third-party sales won’t be allowed, meaning you can only buy directly from the company.

Given the wide range of accessories like headbands and lenses that will be available for the device, it makes sense for Apple to keep it in the hands of those who know it best.

It was just back in July that Apple had to reduce production forecasts due to manufacturing delays caused by the headset’s intricate design. Only less than 500,000 units are expected to be produced in 2024, and the initial launch will be limited to the US, with the UK, Canada, and other markets following later in the year.

Apple is expected to unveil new iPads in March, which means we might get more information about the Vision Pro then.

If you’re looking for an alternative, the Meta Quest 2 is currently on sale for $200, making it one of the better Black Friday tech deals.

So, Apple fans, unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to get our hands on the Apple Vision Pro. But rest assured, it seems like Apple is taking the time to perfect every aspect of this highly anticipated VR headset. In the meantime, there are other options available, like the Meta Quest 2, which might just satisfy your virtual reality cravings. Keep an eye out for updates on the Vision Pro’s launch and get ready to immerse yourself in a world of technology like never before!
