The iPhone 15 Deals: A Twist in Carrier Promotions

iPhone

The highly anticipated iPhone 15 is now available for preorder, and carriers are wasting no time in promoting their latest offers. All three major carriers in the United States – AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon – are offering up to $1,000 off the new device, but with some conditions. While carrier promotions locking customers into contracts or requiring trade-ins are nothing new, what sets the iPhone 15 deals apart is how carriers like T-Mobile and Verizon are leveraging this opportunity to entice customers to switch to their newer, pricier plans. So, if you’re considering getting the new iPhone 15, here’s what you need to know about the carrier deals available.

AT&T: A Straightforward Deal

AT&T is offering the most straightforward deal among the three carriers. To get $1,000 off the iPhone 15, all you need to do is be on one of AT&T’s recent or older unlimited plans (excluding the cheapest Value Plus option) and trade in a recent phone in good condition. Eligible phones include models from last year or older premium phones like the iPhone 12 Pro Max, as well as any iPhone from the iPhone 13 or iPhone 14 lines. The deal also extends to devices like the Google Pixel 7 Pro and various Samsung phones. The $1,000 discount is spread over a 36-month installment plan with monthly bill credits. It’s worth noting that if you decide to leave AT&T before the 36-month period ends, you’ll need to pay off the remaining balance on your phone.

Verizon: Switch and Save

Verizon’s deal requires you to add a new line or switch from another carrier and sign up for their priciest unlimited plan, Unlimited Ultimate. Once you meet these requirements, you can trade in any iPhone, regardless of its condition, and get the full $1,000 discount. This means even if you have a broken iPhone 4 lying around, you can still take advantage of this offer. However, if you decide to leave Verizon early, you’ll be responsible for paying off the remaining balance. It’s unclear why Verizon is limiting this offer to switchers opting for their most expensive plan, but for some, the trade-off may be worth it, especially if you plan to trade in or sell your newer phone elsewhere.

T-Mobile: A Limited Deal

T-Mobile’s deal for the iPhone 15 isn’t much different from Verizon’s. To qualify for their best deal, you need to be on either the Go5G Plus plan introduced in April or the more expensive Go5G Next plan introduced in August. Both plans require you to trade in an eligible device, such as a Pro model iPhone dating back to the iPhone 11 Pro or an “Ultra” model of a Samsung Galaxy device. The devices being traded in must also be in good condition. T-Mobile offers 24-month financing plans, significantly shorter than AT&T or Verizon’s 36-month plans. Existing T-Mobile customers can also take advantage of this deal, unlike with Verizon’s offer. However, T-Mobile does restrict upgrade options for customers on older plans, requiring all lines to switch to the eligible plans if one person wants to take advantage of the deal. T-Mobile states that the introduction of Go5G Plus and Go5G Next ensures customers on these plans receive the best device deals, but they also have other offers for those who prefer not to switch plans.

Not Interested in the Latest Phone or Switching Plans?

If you’re not interested in the latest phone or prefer not to switch to a more expensive plan, all three carriers also offer deals for older devices or customers who want to stick with their current plans.

  • AT&T offers up to $830 off the iPhone 15 for customers on unlimited plans. The discount decreases based on the device being traded in, starting from older devices like the iPhone 11, iPhone 12 series, or the iPhone 13 mini. Various Samsung, Google, OnePlus, LG, Motorola, ZTE, Asus, and Microsoft phones also qualify for trade-ins. The offer requires the phone to be financed over 36 months and be on an unlimited plan.
  • Verizon offers up to $830 off the iPhone 15 for customers on higher-end plans, such as Unlimited Plus and older options. Customers on cheaper plans can get up to $415 off with a trade-in. The device being traded in must meet Verizon’s criteria, which are not specified in the current information available.
  • T-Mobile offers up to $650 off any iPhone 15 model for customers on their Magenta Max plan. Eligible devices include iPhones dating back to the XS, XS Max, and 11 series, as well as other undisclosed Android phones. Customers on Magenta or Go5G plans can get up to $350 off, with various trade-in options. Older plan subscribers can get $200 off with certain trade-ins. All traded-in devices must be in good condition and fully paid off. Financing plans at T-Mobile run for 24 months.

So, whether you’re looking to get the latest iPhone 15 or prefer to stick with your current phone and plan, there are options available from all three major carriers. Just make sure to carefully consider the requirements, terms, and conditions before making your decision.
